A 38‑year‑old Florida police officer faces accusations of assault after her boyfriend told her he wanted to end their two‑year relationship. He says she blocked his exit, then scratched and bit him.

Marcia Sangronis, a member of the North Bay Village Police Department, was taken into custody on Tuesday on one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, according to court records.

A probable‑cause affidavit shows the investigation began when the alleged victim fled Sangronis’ home just before 10 a.m. on Oct. 6. He flagged down two Hialeah Police Department patrol officers and reported that Sangronis “physically abuses him,” then described the most recent alleged attack.

The victim explained that he and Sangronis spent the night at her house, where she brought up his “lack of motivation to pursue a career in law enforcement.” He added that whenever the topic arose, Sangronis “becomes angry and violent,” so he learned to downplay his career plans and agree with her to avoid escalating her anger.

He also said he intended to “end the relationship” with Sangronis when they woke up the next day.

From his recounting of the following morning: when he told her he wanted to break up, the defendant grew upset and positioned herself in front of the doorway, preventing him from leaving. He tried to reach for the doorknob, and she told him, “You are not allowed to leave.” He made another attempt, and she began to attack him.

In a recorded statement at the precinct, the victim added that after he said he was “done with the relationship,” Sangronis “bearhugged him,” dragged him away from the door, and then bit him.

Hialeah police special‑victims detectives arrived on the scene, and a Criminal Investigations Division technician photographed the injuries. The victim sustained three bite marks on his left arm,one breaking the skin,as well as several scratches on his body, arms, and face.

Sangronis also gave a statement to police, but that portion of the arrest affidavit remains redacted.

The North Bay Village Police Department confirmed that Hialeah police notified the agency about the incident and that Sangronis was “relieved of duty with pay per our agency’s protocols,” as reported by local station WPLG.

“The North Bay Village Police Department holds all its personnel to the highest standards of conduct and fully accountable for their actions on and off duty,” the department said.

Sangronis was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and released after posting a $1,000 bond. A judge barred her from contacting the alleged victim as a condition of her release.

It is not yet clear when Sangronis is scheduled to appear in court.
