A Chicago man who helped rob an electrical work crew at gunpoint of $25,000 in equipment while on parole for his role in a $46,000 Prada shop burglary was sentenced to eight years in federal prison.
Kahdaffie Green pled guilty to interfering with trade through threat or violence, as well as using a firearm during a violent offense. U.S. District Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer sentenced him to 96 months.
According to federal authorities, the daytime heist occurred on December 6, 2023, in the 9700 block of South Martin Luther King Drive, while three electrical workers were installing a natural gas pipeline. Green remained behind the wheel of a stolen Jeep Cherokee as three accomplices allegedly exited and brandished firearms at the workers. Two of them carried a RIDGID SeeSnake sewage camera and a Digitrak locate box, each worth around $25,000, into the Jeep. Prosecutors said Green then drove away with the men and the stolen equipment.
According to a Chicago police report, police tracked a GPS tracker linked to the Jeep and discovered it in a yard in the 11800 block of South Vincennes Avenue. Green, Chaqwon Birden, Marquise Ramyyeh, and Jahjuan Green fled the vehicle but were apprehended nearby, authorities said. Officers found the stolen equipment from the Jeep.
Prosecutors demanded a 135-month term for Green, claiming he was undeterred by previous punishment and proceeded to target expensive property with weapons.
Green was on parole at the time of the electrical crew heist for his involvement in the Oak Street Prada store robbery. He had been condemned to 42 months in jail for the Prada heist and was released on July 23, 2023, less than five months before the electrical team robbery.
Prosecutors also challenged Green’s claim that his role in the utility crew heist was less dangerous than his colleagues’ because he remained in the van, never brandished a gun, and did not steal the equipment himself. Although he did not point a firearm at the workers, he allegedly watched from the driver’s seat as the others threatened the victims and placed the stolen equipment into the Jeep.
According to prosecutors, Green also helped plot the crime. Cellphone data purportedly reveal his phone connected to mobile towers around the robbery site on December 3, 4, and 5, 2023, which authorities claimed was consistent with him casing the location in the days leading up to the crime.
According to the authorities, a photograph shot with Green’s phone the night before the robbery showed him wearing the identical attire and holding a Smith & Wesson rifle that Birden used during the robbery.
Prosecutors also stated that Green reported being hit by “stray bullets” in his side, arm, and back in September 2023, just three months prior to the robbery. They claimed that his experience as a gunshot victim made it especially alarming that he would put others in danger of similar brutality.
Green’s defense attorneys urged Pallmeyer to impose a 90-month sentence, considering his challenging childhood and efforts at rehabilitation. The defense cited a “heroic” occurrence on April 10, 2026, while Green was imprisoned in the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center: Green helped prevent another inmate from jumping from an upper tier and assisted in efforts to de-escalate the situation, according to the defense team. Green was recognized by the Bureau of Prisons for a “significant and commendable act of “heroism”—evidence, according to his advocates, of personal growth and a commitment to human life preservation.
Pallmeyer ultimately sentenced Green to five months more than his attorneys wanted, but 39 months less than the prosecutors sought.
