Dylan James Brown stood before the court as his sentencing for the death of his 2‑month‑old daughter was broadcast (KCCI).
An Iowa man faces almost sixty years behind bars after beating his infant daughter to death, punching her more than 40 times, and choking her mother unconscious when she intervened.
Dylan James Brown, 24, also known as Guy Green, received a 58‑year prison term for the murder of 2‑month‑old Mia Green and for assaulting her mother, according to the Polk County Attorney’s Office. He entered a guilty plea in August on charges of child endangerment resulting in death and domestic‑abuse assault, and will become eligible for parole after 35 years.
Polk County District Judge Coleman McAllister highlighted the stark size disparity between Brown and the baby.
“Mr. Brown was six‑foot‑two, 350 pounds, and he beat his child to death,” McAllister said. “These crimes are not only senseless, they shock the conscious.”
Brown told investigators that he awoke on August 7, 2025, to discover Mia not breathing in his Grimes home, a suburb of Des Moines.
“He started striking the child, thinking it was the best course of action,” his attorney, Andrew Petrovich, explained. “There is no evidence to suggest he had an ill will toward baby Mia. He has trouble controlling his emotions when triggered.”
Petrovich added that his client suffers from mental illness and endured an abusive childhood.
Prosecutors, however, pointed out Brown’s pattern of poor decisions, including nine violations of a no‑contact order with the child’s mother.
“This sentencing is not about his childhood; it is about the childhood he took,” Assistant County Attorney Shannon Bogolin asserted.
Mia sustained fractures to her skull, pubic bone, ribs, clavicle and tibia, injuries that resembled those from a high‑speed car crash rather than CPR.
A criminal complaint obtained by local CBS affiliate KCCI reported that Brown struck Mia more than 40 times and then choked her mother until she lost consciousness when she tried to intervene. The mother survived.
Brown offered an apology to the court.
“I hope I get the help I need in prison,” he said.
