Two children, ages 4 and 10, were shot dead in broad daylight by their own father, according to reports. Witnesses on a passing bus and nearby bystanders say they saw the tragedy unfold.

“Oh my God I was on the bus when it happened,” a witness can be heard saying in a Citizen App video that captured the aftermath of the Los Angeles shooting, according to local ABC affiliate KABC.

Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Metro officials confirmed to CW affiliate KTLA that an L.A. Metro bus formed part of the investigation and crime scene in Pico‑Union. The outlet reports that a woman on the bus observed the incident on Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Catalina Street and Venice Boulevard around 12:40 p.m., shouting for the driver to stop in an effort to help the children.

“Police investigating a shooting in the Pico‑Union area have requested video footage from a Metro bus, which was passing through the area at the time and may have captured the incident,” a Metro spokesperson told KTLA. “The Los Angeles Police Department is leading the investigation.”

The man alleged to have shot the children was hospitalized with a self‑inflicted gunshot wound and remains in police custody at the hospital. Authorities have not released his current condition; they estimate his age to be between 30 and 40.

The two children, whose names have not been released, were also taken to a local hospital, where medical staff pronounced them dead upon arrival.

An LAPD spokesperson told KTLA and the Los Angeles Times that the shooting appeared to be a “possible attempted murder‑suicide” and that the suspect is believed to be the victims’ father. No further details have been made public.

“He shot himself in the head,” another witness can be heard saying on the Citizen App video. “He shot himself in the head,” the person repeats.
