Man forces Uber Eats driver to ‘lie on the ground,’ shoots him in buttocks after driver seeks his girlfriend’s phone number: Sheriff

A 33‑year‑old Florida man faces accusations of attempting to murder an Uber Eats driver, shooting the courier in the buttocks and threatening his life after the driver tried to get the man’s girlfriend’s phone number.

Authorities took Khuslen Saruultuya into custody and filed one count each of attempted felony murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to court records.

The probable‑cause affidavit reveals that the driver first met Saruultuya’s girlfriend around 2:35 a.m. on Monday while delivering food to the Pearl Dadeland Apartments on North Kendall Drive in Miami. She greeted him outside the main lobby, they exchanged a brief conversation, and the driver later told deputies he “took a liking to her.”

The driver kept working nearby and returned to the complex at about 3:25 a.m., hoping to see the woman again and “possibly obtain her phone number,” but she was nowhere to be found, the affidavit states.

While the driver walked back to his vehicle, Saruultuya allegedly pulled up in a gray Chevrolet Corvette, stepped out, and “gave the victim loud verbal commands to lie on the ground while pointing at him with what the victim described as a semi‑automatic handgun.”

The driver obeyed, but Saruultuya allegedly fired a single round that “grazed the victim on his right buttock.” He then allegedly struck the driver in the back of the head with the gun’s butt, creating a 2‑inch open wound, deputies wrote.

According to the driver, Saruultuya then ordered him to stand, aimed the weapon at his head, and declared, “I am going to kill you.” The girlfriend begged, shouting, “Babe, please stop!” as the affidavit notes.

Saruultuya reportedly chased the driver around the Corvette, keeping the gun trained on him while the girlfriend tried to intervene. The driver escaped and drove himself to South Miami Hospital for treatment.

A Miami‑Dade Sheriff’s deputy responded to a 3:34 a.m. gunfire report at the apartment complex. A witness told the deputy that a man had pointed a gun at another man and then fled in a two‑door sports car with a Florida license plate. Investigators linked the plate to a 2021 gray Chevrolet Corvette registered to Saruultuya, the affidavit says.

An off‑duty South Miami police officer at the hospital alerted authorities when the victim arrived in the emergency room.

Later, the driver identified Saruultuya as his attacker from a photo lineup, officials reported.

Deputies arrested Saruultuya at his home without incident and transferred him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for booking. He remains held without bond as of Tuesday evening, according to records.
