A 63-year-old woman is dead in a three-vehicle crash in Socorro on Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, according to authorities.
Officers from the Socorro Police Department were dispatched to the 11400 block of North Loop Drive about 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday to investigate a motor vehicle crash.
Socorro Police later identified the deceased as Ada Laura Rodriguez, 63.
When police arrived, they discovered a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of North Loop and Bauman Road.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 63-year-old lady — later identified as Ada Laura Rodriguez — was stopped westbound on North Loop, waiting for traffic to clear before turning left southbound onto Bauman, police said.
While stopped, the woman was hit from behind by another vehicle driven by a 21-year-old woman traveling west on North Loop.
The accident propelled the 63-year-old’s car into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by another car driving east on North Loop. That third car was driven by a 26-year-old lady who was carrying a one-year-old infant.
Emergency personnel began CPR on the first vehicle’s 63-year-old female driver. After being transferred to a local hospital, she died from her injuries.
The driver of the third vehicle and her 1-year-old passenger were sent to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle reported no injuries.
The Sister Cities Major Crimes Unit, comprised of Socorro and Horizon City Police Departments, as well as Special Traffic Investigations, is investigating the collision.
As of approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the crash area was being cleaned up.
North Loop Drive between Barnhart Drive and Sunset Valley Avenue is still closed, but it is scheduled to reopen within the next hour.
This inquiry is ongoing, and more information will be disclosed when it becomes available.
