Hillsborough County Deputies Revisit 4-Year-Old Teen Halloween Party Killing, Urge Public For Tips

Investigators in Hillsborough County are once again appealing to the public for assistance in solving the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Laci Gilileo, who was killed at a Halloween costume party nearly four years ago.

Deputies initially responded at approximately 2:15 a.m. on November 1, 2022, following multiple reports of gunfire at a residence in the 9000 block of Harney Road in Thonotosassa. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult male victim, a 19-year-old man, who had sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital and received treatment in stable condition.

Gilileo, a student at Bloomingdale High School, was shot at the party and subsequently located by deputies at a nearby Petrol Mart at 11511 U.S. 301. Emergency responders transported the 15-year-old to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Detectives established that an altercation erupted during the large gathering before an individual opened fire. As the fourth anniversary of the shooting approaches, investigators believe that several individuals who were present at the party that night have yet to speak with law enforcement.

“Four years have passed, but this family’s grief over losing their daughter has not,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I urge anyone with information to please call our detectives.”

The Sheriff’s Office continues to actively investigate the case and urges anyone with information regarding the shooting or those responsible to contact detectives at (813) 247-8200.
