Cook Helps to Bless Others with Project

POMEROY, Ohio – A local high school graduate and college student decided to take on a project to bless others.

Jessica Cook, a Shawnee State student in the Medical Laboratory Technician Program, knew she had to complete community service hours before graduation. Graduation will be in the Spring of 2021, but before then, Cook needs to complete 15 hours of community service. With the break in classes due to COVID-19, she decided she might be able to do some community service here locally.

Cook said, “I am currently at 3 hours and did not want to be trying to cram in hours the last semester along with clinicals, especially considering that all the opportunities that were set up in Portsmouth were canceled. I messaged my program professor and asked if taking feminine products and putting them into blessing boxes would count.”

Many items are placed in the blessing boxes throughout the county. Many of them are food items but Cook noticed a need for feminine products and other items too. Using small makeup bags, Cook filled them with feminine products, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, and sample size perfume. The bags were placed in Blessing Boxes in Tuppers Plains, Racine, Syracuse, and Pomeroy.

Cook was able to fulfill some of her community service hours for her degree work, but was also able to help bless others right here at home.

Cook is a graduate of Eastern High School.
