Racine Set for July 4th Festivities
RACINE, Ohio – Racine is set for the annual celebration of Independence Day this weekend.
On July 4, 2020 events kick off with the parade beginning at 10 a.m. Parade line-up begins at 9 a.m. at Southern High School. Anyone wanting to be judged must be in line by 9:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third in each category. The categories are: floats; bicycles; walking units; horses; tractors; antique vehicles; golf carts, UTV, ATV. Prizes are sponsored by the Racine Area Community Organization (RACO) and Home National Bank.
Following the parade at 11 a.m. the Racine Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary will begin serving the annual Chicken BBQ at the fire house. Due to COVID-19, there will be no dine-in, only carry-out is available. Whole chicken dinners are $9 and include sides or $7 for half with no sides. Ice cream will be available for $3 a pint. Flavors are vanilla, chocolate, pineapple, cherry nut, banana, and pistachio.
Later in the evening Kona Ice will be at Star Mill Park from 6-10 p.m. They are sponsored by Home National Bank. Additionally, Home National Bank is handing out a free treat ticket for Kona Ice with transaction receipts at the bank.
Also in Star Mill Park will be a returning area favorite with the Frog Jumping Contest registration set for 7 p.m. There will be a $3 per entry fee. Participants can bring their own frog or utilize the “frog rental” for $1. There will be prizes for first, second, and third in each class. Classes are based on age groups: 12 and under; 13-17; 18 and up. A prize will be awarded for the Overall Longest Jump of the Day.
Events wrap up with the celebration of Independence Day with a fireworks display in Star Mill Park from the Racine Fire Department at 10 p.m. Racine firefighters put on the show each year and raise funds for the fireworks display.
