On the morning of July 26, the Racine Fire Department and Ravenswood Fire Department were dispatched to Letart Township for a structure fire. Shortly after that fire was dispatched, an additional fire call came in and was dispatched for Lebanon Township on Lovett Road. Units from Racine, Syracuse, Chester and Bashan Fire Departments were on scene in Lebanon Township to handle the second fire.

While the initial Racine response was in Letart Township three additional fires were reported in that township. Structure fires were at different locations and included a garage, a house, a mobile home and a vehicle.

The State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate and the fires remain under investigation at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Fire Marshal’s tip line at 800-589-2728, Racine Fire Chief Boyd Bailey at 304-786-6024, or the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office at 740-992-3371.

The Racine Fire Department also expressed gratitude to the Ladies Auxiliary for “always being prepared at a moments notice.” Hill’s Food-Mart also opened early so the firefighters could get needed refreshments. Racine Fire Department also thanked all the mutual aid departments for their assistance.
