Probable Case of COVID-19 Announced in Meigs
POMEROY, Ohio – A probable case of COVID-19 has been announce by the Meigs County Health Department. With this probable case of COVID-19, the total active cases to four in Meigs County. Today’s case of COVID-19 brings Meigs County to 26 total cases (20 Confirmed, 6 Probable) since April.
The probable case is a female in the 80 to 89-year-old age range,who is not hospitalized. Today’s case is a direct contact of August 3, 2020 confirmed case.
According to the Center for Disease Control the following are definitions of a Probable COVID-19 Case and a Confirmed Case:
Probable
- Meets clinical criteria AND epidemiologic evidence with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19.
- Meets presumptive laboratory evidence AND either clinical criteria OR epidemiologic evidence.
- Meets vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19.
Confirmed
- Meets confirmatory laboratory evidence.
The Health Department released the following statement, “We ask residents to please refrain from calling the Health Department for questions regarding this case while we complete our disease investigation and notify relevant individuals. The case and individuals identified as contacts of the case will be advised to self-quarantine for 14 days.”
The Meigs County Health Department is also reporting the counties 22nd recovered COVID-19 case since April. To be considered recovered a confirmed or probable case must complete the 14-day quarantine, and be symptom free for at least 72 hours.
The health department urges residents to continue following federal, state, and local guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
