Racine sets Independence Day activities

RACINE, Ohio – The annual Racine celebration of American Indepence Day is set as usual except for a change in the time of the parade. 

The Village of Racine has announced the Independence Day activities for Sunday, July 4, 2021. The day will kick off with the Racine Volunteer Fire Department selling BBQ chicken dinners and homemade ice cream at 11 a.m. 

The parade which is normally in the morning will be moved to 6:30 p.m. The line up will be at 6 p.m. at the Southern High school parking lot. The parade route will start at the school on Elm Street then turn left on to Third Street, proceed on Vine Street to the intersection of Fifth Street where it will turn left and follow Fifth to the intersection of Elm Street where it will travel back to the high school. 

Following the parade, at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Frog Jump Contest at the Star Mill Park.

Registration fee will be $3 if you bring your own champion frog or you can rent a champion frog for a $1. The contest will be divided into age groups, 12 years old and under, 13-17 years old, and 18 years old plus. There will be prizes given in each group for first, second, and third place and overall longest jump of the day.

The Kona Ice truck will be at the park and is sponsored by Home National Bank. There will also be a few other vendors in the park.   

The day will end with the Racine Fire Department fireworks display at 10 p.m. The Village asks that the public use extra caution during the day as there will be heavy traffic and pedestrians in the village. The fire department asks that the public be mindful of the boundaries/caution tape that will be in place around the ball fields in the park for the fireworks display. The boundaries are set per the Ohio Fire Marshals guidelines for the safety of all.
