POMEROY, Ohio – This weekend, Friday August 5 and Saturday, August 6 the Secretary’s office will be open for those who want to get registered for open class entries from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. A wide variety of items can be entered from baking/canning items, quilts, photography, fruits, vegetables, flowers, antique farm equipment, animals and so much more. In order to enter one must have a season or membership pass which can be purchased when registering entries.
Entries for the Pretty Baby Contest will also be taken on Friday and Saturday with a fee of $10, with late entries being taken the day of the event at the cost of $20, the event will be held on Monday of the fair.
Also on Friday and Saturday registration for the Little Miss and Mister Contest will be accepted with in person interviews being held prior to the start of the fair on August 13 at the Hill Stage, with the crowing to take place at opening ceremonies. The fee to enter the Little Miss and Mister Contest is $10 and there are no late entries.
Reservations for camping, reserve parking, and pull track parking will be taken on Saturday only beginning at 8 a.m., and are sold on a first come first serve basis. The cost to camp the week of the fair is $200 which includes water and electric. Reserve parking spaces are available in the parking lot on top of the hill near the livestock barns for $25 per space. Pull track parking spaces are available for $50, these are all sold on first come first serve basis.
New this year the fair will be selling season passes online by visiting the fair’s websitewww.themeigscountyfair.com. Fair goers can have the convenience of purchasing their season passes or single day admission tickets online and then printing out their pass or they can save it digitally to their mobile device which will then be scanned at the gate. Those wanting to purchase their tickets in person, can do so by visiting the fair office August 5 and 6 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. or the weekend before fair, August 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The cost to attend the fair this year is $8 per day, which includes rides. Season passes are $18 and membership passes are $20. In order to purchase a membership pass you must be 18 years old and resident of Meigs County. A Membership pass gives you the privilege to run/vote for the Meigs County Agricultural Society at the annual election held in November. Those holding a pass and wishing to ride the amusement rides have to pay an additional $5 at the ride ticket office.
Special days at the fair this year include Kids Day, Wednesday, August 17, where kids 12 years and under will be admitted free until noon but must pay $5 to ride the rides. Kids Day events will take place at the Hill Stage and include a treasure hunt, music and fun by Rockin’ Reggie, a skit by Wolfe Mountain Entertainment, and prizes for kids. There will also be several businesses, groups and organizations with booths set up for kids to visit.
Senior Day will be Thursday August 18, where seniors will be admitted free until 2 p.m. Besides the traditional fair attractions seniors can enjoy bingo in the Coon Hunter’s Building and harness racing in The Grandstand.
