Meigs Independent Press Announces Change to Obituary Policies

The Meigs Independent Press has faithfully brought obituaries to the Meigs area at no charge to
the families or readers for the last 10 years. As business needs and the area market change, so
too must our policies adapt and grow.

Starting Monday, October 14, 2024 the Meigs Independent Press will be charging to publish
obituaries. A standard obituary that may include a photo if the family wishes, will be $50. This
includes being posted to the Meigs Independent Press website, as well as shared to the
Facebook page. The rate of $50 is still considerably under the local market average for obituary
publications, and was decided on to make publishing accessible for all families in their
time of need.

For those who choose to not publish a full obituary a death notice will be offered at no cost. A
death notice will look as follows:

John Doe, 89, of Pomeroy, Ohio passed away on October 1, 2024. Services will be held at X
Funeral Home on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 1:00 pm.

Families will be able to request obituary services from the Meigs Independent Press through their local funeral home for either option they may choose.
