Sheriff Issues Level 2 Snow Emergency, Others Dealing with No Power

MEIGS COUNTY – In addition to some dealing with power outages, as of 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6, 2014 the Meigs County Sheriff has issued a Level 2 Snow Emergency.

Sheriff Keith Wood issued the emergency level due to the extreme low temperatures. According to a Level 2, “Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be on the roadways. You should contact your employer to see if you should report to work.”

Due to the extreme conditions the need to stay warm is increased. Precautions should be taken with pets as well.

Several warming stations have been set up for those who do not have heat or do not have adequate heat. There is a station at the Middleport Village Hall (The Middleport Church of the Nazarene are working with them at the Village Hall); the Racine Fire Station and the Syracuse Community Center.

Some communities are without power as well. The Sheriff noted that American Electric Power is aware of the situation and is working to get the power back. There are about 895 AEP customers in Meigs County without power. Currently, more than 4,100 AEP customers in Ohio are without power.

Meigs Local, Southern Local, Eastern Local, Heart of the Valley – Meigs, New Horizons Child Enrichment, Carleton School & Meigs Industries, and Mid Valley Christian Schools are all closed tomorrow.
