Orville Oliver Johnson, 88
Orville Oliver Johnson, 88, of Gallipolis, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014, at his residence. Born July 16, 1925 in Cheshire Township of Gallia County to the late Dustin and Francis Searls Johnson. He loved carpentry, cooking, and attending the Gallipolis Apostolic Church when he was able. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Iowa Battleship. He was a member of Post # 4464, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Disabled Veterans, and the American Legion Post # 27. He was married to the former Lillian Bell and to this union three children were born. He later married Velma Snider on November 24, 1962 in Gallipolis and she survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Karen (Ron) Thomas, Cincinnati, OH, Raelene Northup, Bidwell, Mary (David) Chapman, Bidwell, Toni Novak, Gallipolis and Linda (Bobby) Barker, Gallipolis, 19 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren, and a special caregiver for almost ten years, Dianna Wray.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by daughters, D. D. Johnson and Orvillette Johnson Riffle, sons, Orville Johnson Jr. and Wesley Douglas Johnson, sisters, Thelma Johnson, Gladys Durst, Latrice Rivard, Audrey Frazier, Ruby Johnson and Katherine Bush and two brothers, Cecil Johnson and Delvin Johnson. Orville also leaves behind many friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 16, 2014, in the Cremeens Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Mike Chapman. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery near Bidwell. Friends may call from 5 – 8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Full Military graveside services will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail Team.
