Police: Man Found Near Train Tracks In South St. Louis Was Shot

The St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that a man, who was found dead near train tracks in Ellendale early Monday morning, died from a gunshot wound.

According to Evita Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, railroad employees observed the man at 3 a.m. near Southwest and McCausland avenues and alerted authorities.

Caldwell said the man was brought to the hospital with head trauma and died shortly after arriving. He was 47.

An autopsy revealed that the individual had suffered a gunshot wound to the face.

Homicide detectives have taken charge of the investigation.
