A Kansas City man was sentenced for a deadly shooting that occurred in October 2023.

Arnette Taylor Jr., a 41-year-old man, was sentenced to 13 years in prison on Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court for Dennis Jones’ death.

A jury found him guilty of first-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action earlier this summer, prompting the punishment.

According to court records, on October 23, 2023, police were called to a home on 52nd Street and College Avenue in Kansas City, located between 71 Highway and Swope Parkway.

Officers arrived to find a man, subsequently identified as Jones, unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. He was certified dead at the spot by emergency medical services.

According to court records, Taylor’s girlfriend recognized him as “Boo.” She stated that Taylor was the last person to see Jones, the victim, before the shooting.

She told authorities that she left the residence to escort a friend home, but when she returned, she discovered Taylor gone and Jones motionless on the floor.

According to court filings, officers reviewed security footage and heard a gunshot and “Boo” leaving the house.

During the investigation, officers reviewed phone and police records and were able to link the name “Boo” to Taylor.

Taylor was arrested on November 7, 2023. According to court papers, he denied being in the vicinity on the night of the shooting, but his cell phone data showed he was there.

Taylor was sentenced nearly two years after the incident and faces a 13-year jail term.
