A Gary man has been sentenced to decades in jail after admitting to his role in a fatal 2023 shooting inside a local convenience shop.
According to Lake County court records, Melvion M. Delphie, 23, entered into a plea agreement in July 2025, legally admitting to murder in connection with Alexander Hudson’s death on January 28, 2023.
According to court documents, the incident began at the One Stop Convenience Store on West 45th Avenue in Gary, where Hudson had made arrangements to sell marijuana. Delphie and a co-defendant were recorded on surveillance camera returning to the store many times that evening. Delphie stated that after seeing Hudson with a pistol during one of the transactions, he intended to return to get the gun.
According to the affidavit, when Delphie confronted Hudson inside the business, a fight ensued over the handgun. During the altercation, another armed man pulled out his firearm. Hudson was fatally shot, and Delphie was seen grabbing Hudson’s handgun before departing the store.
Delphie received a 45-year sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction as part of her plea. In exchange, prosecutors dropped charges of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, robbery resulting in bodily harm, robbery, and theft.
