A felon was sentenced to three years in jail for firing his gun in a Southeast D.C. neighborhood.
Dewayne Keith Miles, 29, fired 13 shots into the air around 3:30 p.m. on March 15 near the 4600 block of Benning Road, Southeast, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro. On June 30, Miles pled guilty to unauthorized possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Metropolitan Police officers discovered Miles after he fired the gun and fled into a building. Pirro revealed that they discovered a Smith & Wesson pistol that had previously been reported stolen.
Miles surrendered, and a 9mm bullet was discovered in his pocket during a check of the cell block, according to Pirro.
Once Miles was released, the judge sentenced him to three years of supervised release.
