Deandre Deshawn Davis, 40, of Arlington, Texas, was detained on I-75 this morning on active warrants for grand theft of a vehicle and driving without a legal license.

On October 1, about 8:54 a.m., Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies discovered a white Kia sedan driving northbound on I-75 near Micanopy that had been reported stolen from Arlington, Texas. Deputies were stationed at several exits on I-75 in Alachua County, and a high-risk traffic check was conducted roughly a mile south of the Alachua exit (mile marker 398). The driver, identified as Davis, was detained.

After Miranda, Davis reportedly stated that he knew he was not permitted to drive the vehicle since he received an email from the owner, who stated that she was contacting the Texas police to report the vehicle stolen.

Davis was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a valid license. He was also arrested on two active felony warrants from Texas, one for burglary and one for a parole violation.

Davis will appear before a court on October 2, and his criminal record and bail will be available that afternoon.
