A crash on Chicago’s West Side Wednesday included US Customs and Border Protection agents.

According to Chicago police, at 2:36 p.m., a white sedan with an unknown driver was driving east on Congress Parkway at California Avenue in the East Garfield Park area, while a 49-year-old woman was driving north on California Avenue.

A white sedan collided with a black SUV. According to police, the woman driving the black SUV was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition after suffering shoulder, neck, and hip injuries.

Police reported that the driver of the white vehicle escaped.

While on the site, Chicago police superiors discovered that border patrol officials had detained someone connected to the crash. An investigatory stop report was completed, and the subject was released from the scene.

Border patrol believed the individual seized was the driver of the white vehicle that fled and was accused of stealing construction equipment nearby. Border patrol said a construction foreman reported that someone stole a $5,000 saw.
