A Winter Haven woman wanted on an outstanding fraud warrant was arrested late Friday night after a traffic stop and a brief physical struggle, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

Traci Nicole Hunter, 44, has been sought by authorities since July of this year, when a PCSO fraud detective discovered she had taken advantage of an elderly man who had hired her for housecleaning services.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Hunter on counts of using a person’s ID over the age of 60 and theft from a person 65 or over, but she was difficult to locate, authorities say.

That changed on Friday, October 10, at about 11:45 p.m., when Deputy Cruz pulled Hunter over while she was riding her bicycle near Avenue Y NE and Lucerne Park Road in Winter Haven.

After learning he had stopped the wanted offender, Deputy Cruz went to arrest Hunter. However, the deputy encountered resistance from Hunter before successfully apprehending her.

During the arrest, deputies discovered Hunter in possession of a glass pipe and cocaine.

Hunter was arrested and taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center to face the original Polk County warrant charges. She was also charged with possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting without violence in connection with the incident on Friday night.
