Tony Markel Howard Jr., 39, was found guilty of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, shooting into a car, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
This case stems from an event in March 2022, when a Moss Point police officer responded to a report of shots fired near Frederick and Macphelah Streets. When the officer came, Howard noticed his patrol car and began shooting at it, hitting the side of the officer’s vehicle.
The officer was not shot, and Howard was taken into jail.
Howard had previously been convicted of felony crimes, including a violent crime; thus, he was charged as a life habitual offender.
He was sentenced to life in prison by the Mississippi Department of Corrections with no option of parole or early release.
