The Columbus Division of Police is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in an aggravated robbery on the city’s east side last month. According to a social media post from the Columbus Division of Police, the incident occurred on August 2nd at a business in the 2800 block of E. 5th Ave.

According to reports, store clerks recognized the suspect from past crimes and approached him. The suspect pushed past the store clerks who attempted to stop him from entering the tobacco goods storage area. He began filling his backpack with stuff worth an estimated $600. A clerk grabbed the suspect’s arm, escalating the situation. He responded by displaying a black revolver and threatening, “I will shoot you,” which prompted the clerks to escape the situation. The suspect then gathered more goods before departing on foot, heading east into an alley.

He was described as a Black male between the ages of 20 and 25, standing 5’9″ and weighing roughly 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a distinctive blue sweatshirt with red and white square artwork on the front, black pants, and white Nike tennis shoes with a red swoosh. His face was disguised with a black mask featuring a white Nike logo on the left side. He also carried a black or dark blue rucksack with a white Adidas emblem, and he wore a black pistol.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the robbery can contact Detective D. McGuire at (614) 645-4664 or [email protected]. Tips can be sent anonymously to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS (8477).
