A New York teenager was arrested in Orange County after officers said he was driving over 100 mph in a 55 mph zone on State Road 528.
Deputies in Orange County arrested 19-year-old Edoardo Ryu Giua of New York after he was caught speeding over 100 mph in a 55-mph zone on State Road 528.
The sheriff’s office said he was driving eastbound near Jetport Drive at 10:40 a.m. Monday in a red Ford Mustang with New York plates assigned to his mother. Deputies said radar corroborated his speed.
Authorities haven’t explained why Giua was in Central Florida or where he was going at the time of the stop.
Florida’s new “super speeder” legislation went into effect July 1, targeting drivers who violate posted speed limits by more than 50 mph. The law empowers deputies to initiate arrests for incidents previously handled solely through tickets. One of the first cases under the stricter statute is Giua’s arrest.
