John H. Carhart, 88, of Gallipolis, died Monday evening December 16, 2013 at Holzer Senior Care Center. Born September 5, 1925 in Knox County, OH. He was the son of the late Hubert and Marie Doolittle Carhart. In addition to parents, John was preceded by his wife Marjorie Cullison Carhart, a son, Terry Carhart, a brother, Paul Carhart, a great granddaughter, Michelle Hendricks, and by a sister and brother in law, Betty and Lee Dennison.

John was a retired maintenance foreman from Kaiser Aluminum Company. A World War II Navy Veteran, he served from 1944 to 1946. He was a veteran of many combat missions. He was a bow gunner on a PBM Martin Mariner Sea Plane, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C.) along with several other air service metals.
John is survived by 2 daughters, Connie (Mike) Bevan and Debbie Carhart. 3 grandchildren, Chrystal (Chip) Hendricks, Brad (Ashli) Bevan, and Brian (Ashlee) Bevan. 11 great grandchildren, Katie and Michael Hendricks, Trevor, Owen, Gavin, Logan and Sophi Bevan, Ethan, Bryce and Brayden Bevan, and Kassidy Shaffer. 1 brother, Robert Carhart, and a daughter in law, Deborah D. Carhart.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Thursday December 19, 2013 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Harley ‘Chip’ Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 AM. until the time of service. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be: Brad Bevan, Brian Bevan, Michael Hendricks, Trevor Bevan, Own Bevan, and Gavin Bevan.
