6-State Trooper Project to Kick-Off Multi-State Enforcement Effort this Weekend

OHIO – The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be joining forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project to focus on crash causing violations. Troopers will be targeting safety belt, aggressive driving, and OVI related violations along the Interstate 75 corridor. The initiative will take place from February 21, at 12:01 a.m. through February 23, at 11:59 p.m. This high-visibility enforcement effort will include the Michigan State Police, Kentucky State Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

“The Ohio State Highway Patrol takes the crime of impaired driving seriously,” explained Colonel Paul Pride, Patrol superintendent. “Impaired driving is a crime that puts innocent people’s lives in danger.”

Since 2011 fatal crashes have declined 39 percent and OVI-related fatal crashes have declined 67 percent on Interstate 75 in Ohio. This is a positive trend the Patrol is looking to continue through increased awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and educational efforts concerning the importance of safety belt usage. In addition, the Patrol is committed to working with law enforcement partners to address traffic safety issues and crime on our roadways.

The 6-State Trooper Project includes the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Kentucky State Police, Indiana State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, West Virginia State Police and the Michigan State Police.

It is a multi-state law enforcement partnership aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing.
