Donald E. Cox, 88
Donald E. Cox, 88, of Patriot, OH, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Abbyshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gallipolis, Ohio.
He was born on June 13, 1925 at home in Lawrence County, Ohio, son of the late Earl and Mary Lunsford Cox. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his four sisters, Dorothy Stewart, Lyndall Rapp, Martia Penix and Carolyn Warren; and 2 of his brothers Steven Cox and Stewart Cox. His wife, Armella J. Cox also preceded him in death in 1995.
He was retired from USS Chemicals in Haverhill, Ohio where he was a shift foreman. He was a graduate of Hanging Rock High School. He was a frequent producer and seller of vegetables on the Huntington Farmers Market and worked with his father and grandfather Uri Tracy Cox producing and selling apples and vegetables in area markets during the 40’s 50’s and 60’s. He and his family raised and sold registered Polled Hereford cattle for many years in Gallia County, Ohio. He served his country in the US Army during WWII.
He is survived by his brother Phillip Cox of Jackson, Ohio; his children Cindy Staley of Patriot and Retired Judge Donald Andrew Cox and his wife Sharon of Grove City, Ohio; his grandchildren Audrey Cox of Columbus, Ohio, Allen Cox of Houston, Texas, Sarah Rei of Columbus, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be 1 pm Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Willis Funeral Home in Gallipolis, Ohio with Pastor John Jackson of New Life Lutheran Church, officiating. A private burial will follow in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery where he will be interred next to his wife, Armella. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to New Life Lutheran Church in Gallipolis, Ohio. Friends may call on Saturday from noon until the time of the services at Willis Funeral Home.
