Secretary of State Husted Releases New Business Filing Figures for April 2014

image005COLUMBUS – Secretary of State Jon Husted today announced that 8,970 new entities filed to do business in Ohio in April 2014. These numbers are up compared to April 2013, in which 8,539 new entities filed with the Secretary of State. The Secretary of State’s office has assisted with 33,774 new business filings to date in 2014 (January-April). This is a slight increase from the same time period last year, in which there were 32,504 new business filings.

During the previous two years, 2012 and 2013, the state saw a record-setting number of new businesses file with 88,068 and 89,735 new companies filing to do business in Ohio respectively. Growth in online business filings has been steady and available online services continue to be expanded. Since the program’s launch in October 2013, 9,569 new companies have filed online.
Moreover, it is believed that a significant number of these businesses will be operating solely online. Irrespective of being an online business, excellent communication will be critical. However, finding a trusted unified communications provider is much easier said than done. With online businesses soaring in popularity over the past few years, it is estimated that these numbers will continue to increase. Accordingly, setting up an online business has a unique range of advantages. For example, businesses are able to sell their products and services to a global audience. Getting an online business off the ground requires you to take into account a wide range of factors, such as marketing, web design, payments, etc. You could take the help of various service providers- such as merchant account service providers (such as https://www.easypaydirect.com/) to get an efficient online payment gateway- that might perform accordingly to take your online business on the road to success. Sometimes you could act smart by taking services instead of always doing everything on your own. Correspondingly, it is also interesting to note that most of these online-based businesses provide digital goods like software. So, thanks to technology like the Microsoft teams phone system allowing for employees to communicate better and improved security, starting an entirely online business is easier than ever.

Above all, provided that a company makes use of some of the fantastic eCommerce platforms out there, going global has never been easier. With all of this in mind, if you would like to learn more about how businesses can use eCommerce platforms to accept global sales you can read here to find some helpful resources. It will therefore be fascinating to see what else the future holds for online businesses in the Ohio area.

Though the most visible role of the Secretary of State is that of chief elections officer, the office is also the first stop for individuals or companies who want to file and start a business in Ohio. While recognizing these numbers can’t provide a complete picture of Ohio’s jobs climate, they are an important indicator of economic activity that Secretary Husted hopes will add to the discussion of how to improve the state’s overall climate for business.

NOTE: New business filings are classified as forms filed with the Ohio Secretary of State that declare the formation of a business entity, including for-profit, non-profit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships. Filing as a business in Ohio does not guarantee the company will begin operations, be profitable or create jobs.
