Suspect Caught Stealing Gas

stars-storyMeigs County Sheriff Keith Wood reports that his office responded to a call from a concerned resident on Briar Ridge Road on Thursday evening.

The caller stated that a suspicious male person was entering the neighbor’s garage and that they were not home. The caller continued to monitor the suspect and stayed online with our dispatcher. Deputies B. King and B. Davis both responded to the complaint. Prior to officers arriving the caller stated the suspect was leaving the residence, but was able to give a description and direction of travel.

The deputies were able to apprehend Carl Smith age 54 of Langsville. Smith admitted to deputies that he was at the residence and had begun to steal gasoline.

Smith was then taken into custody by the deputies and transported to the Meigs County Jail where he was incarcerated.

Smith was arraigned on one count of breaking and entering in Meigs County Court where he was released on his own recognizance.
