Bill Johnson Invites Students to Apply for Nomination to U.S. Service Academies

image001(2)MARIETTA – Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) is pleased to announce that his office is now accepting applications from young men and women who are interested in seeking a nomination to the United States service academies for fall 2016 admission.

“One of the highest privileges a young man or woman can experience is attending one of the United States’ military service academies,” Johnson said. “The process of selecting future leaders is a duty I take very seriously, and is one of my most important responsibilities as your representative to Congress. I experienced firsthand how these opportunities can shape a young person’s life; I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve my country in the United States Air Force.”

Johnson entered the U.S. Air Force in 1973, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after a distinguished military career of more than 26 years.

Johnson added: “My career in the Air Force and the core values we lived by – Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence In All We Do – helped shape my life and affirmed my belief in all that makes America great. Every year, the students I interview leave me with a tremendous sense of confidence in our future military leadership. I trust this year will be no different, and I am looking forward to meeting all the exceptional applicants.”

Completed applications must be received in Congressman Johnson’s Cambridge District Office by Friday, October 16. Applicants may apply for a nomination to all service academies (The United States Air Force Academy, The United States Naval Academy, The United States Military Academy, and The United States Merchant Marine Academy) in which they have an interest. Candidates must be at least 17 years old, must not have passed their 23rd birthday on July 1 of the year of admission (2016), and must reside within Ohio’s 6th Congressional District.

All of the requested information is required in order for an application package to be considered complete. All candidates who submit a complete application will be notified of an interview date and time by Friday, October 30th.

Applicants are reviewed and evaluated by the six member, non-partisan, volunteer 6th Congressional District Service Academy Nomination Board. Applicants still must meet the requirements of each individual service academy, and each academy will make the final decision on who receives an appointment of admission.
