Sheriff’s Office notes issues with thefts in the county
MEIGS COUNTY – Meigs County Sheriff’s Office reports various issues with thefts in the area.
On December 11, the office received a call from the 124 Mart stating that a male had just left without paying for $14.03 worth of gas. The subject was contacted by deputies and a short time later the incident was taken care of.
On December 12, an individual contacted the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office and stated that he had left his vehicle sitting on Long Hollow Road near US 33 due to a flat tire. The subject advised sometime overnight his vehicle was entered and several items were taken. Deputies took a statement and an investigation is pending.
Deputies received a complaint December 13, from a woman that some packages delivered to her house had been stolen from the front porch. After further investigation, it was determined that her ex-husband may have been responsible for taking the packages. The woman was referred to her attorney.
On December 14, deputies responded to a residence on Strongs Run Road in reference to some stolen scrap metal. The individual stated that he had the scrap metal stored on a trailer, which was later recovered on Buzzard Den Road. Another trailer was also taken and at the time of this report, it has not yet been recovered. The investigation is pending.
Also on December 14, deputies took a report about the theft of Christmas lights in Racine. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office at 740-992-3371.
Deputies also were dispatched to a residence on Sellers Ridge to locate a stolen vehicle for the Ripley Police Department. The vehicle was not located at that location, however, it was later discovered in Charleston, West Virginia.
