National Weather Service puts Meigs, Gallia under 24 hour advisory

The National Weather Service this morning placed Meigs, Gallia, and other Ohio and West Virginia counties under a “Winter Weather Advisory” until six a.m. Friday.

It has been confirmed that Southern Local and Meigs Local schools will be dismissing two hours early Jan. 5. Basketball games are also canceled for this evening.

Gallia County Local schools will also be closing one two hours early today, and Gallipolis City Schools will close one hour early.

Federal Hocking in Athens has early dismissal scheduled for 12:30 p.m..

UPDATE – In addition to the previously mentioned dismissals. Mid Valley Christian School will be dismissing at 1 p.m.
UPDATED – In addition to Southern, Meigs, Eastern, and Alexander schools will be dismissing 2 hours early Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017.

The National Weather service advises precautionary/preparedness actions, and says “a winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow Will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
Covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.”
