Eblin sentenced for vehicular assault, attempted abduction and domestic violence charges
POMEROY, Ohio – Matthew A. Eblin, Jr. was sentenced in the Meigs County Court of Common Pleas following a guilty plea on multiple charges related to an incident at the Mizway Tavern.
Eblin had been indicted on multiple charges by a Meigs County Grand Jury following the events of Dec. 3, 2016. According to the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, Eblin allegedly went after his then girlfriend who fled their residence during a domestic assault and ran to the Mizway Tavern. Eblin chased her to the Mizway and then allegedly drug the victim around the parking lot by her hair. At some point, patrons of the Mizway Tavern began to intervene. Eblin got into his vehicle, spun tires and in the process hit another woman that had been attempting to help the other victim. The second woman was eventually transported to Grant Medical Center with numerous injuries including to her face and mouth. The second woman reportedly has extensive injuries to her face that have required further surgery and therapy.
Eblin entered the guilty plea to the amended charge of Attempted Abduction, a felony of the fourth degree, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison for one count of Aggravated Vehicular Assault, a felony of the fourth degree, and six months in prison for one count of Domestic Violence, a misdemeanor of the first degree. The Attempted Abduction and Aggravated Vehicular Assault are to run consecutive. He is subject to post release control for three years as well. Eblin’s drivers license was suspended for four years effective Dec. 3, 2016. Additionally, there is a lifetime firearm disability. He was also ordered to pay the costs of prosecution and any bond was forfeited to the court.
Eblin was given credit for time served of seven days from Dec. 4 to Dec. 11, 2016.
