RACINE, Ohio – Work continues on a major rockslide that has kept a portion of State Route 124 closed.

The strip of road has been closed at the junction of Blind Hollow Road (Township Road 99) two miles south of Racine since May 29, 2018. Following a rockslide, the portion of road was closed even after the debris was cleared from the roadway as the hillside was unstable. An entire section of the hillside is being brought down and cleared to make the roadway safe again.

Residents that normally would be using the roadway to travel to Letart Falls, East Letart and other areas along the Ohio River have had to detour around, which can be quite a distance for some residents. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation District 10, there is an estimated completion date of December 31, 2018 but that is an estimation of completion only. Meanwhile, residents, first responders and law enforcement continue to detour the closed road.
