Names, More Information Released in Fatal Crash
POMEROY, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released more information in a fatal crash that occurred in Meigs County on June 25, 2019.
According to a statement released from the Gallipolis Post of the OSHP, the crash occurred at 1:30 a.m. on State Route 833 near mile post 1. The OSHP stated a 2003 Nissan Xterra driven by Camilo Casanova, 29, of New Philadelphia, Ohio was traveling south on State Route 833. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment. Casanova was listed as receiving incapacitating injuries and was air evacuated to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
A passenger, Francisco De Leon, 20, of Zanesville, Ohio died at the scene. Another passenger was listed as also having incapacitating injuries and was also air evacuated to Grant Medical Center. The second passenger was not identified “pending positive identification,” according to the statement.
The statement noted that neither the driver nor the passengers were wearing seat belts.
Pomeroy Fire Department, Meigs County EMS, and the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene. The roadway was closed for about 30 minutes, but crews were on the scene for several hours.
