Bishop James M. Means was called to be with the Lord on March 11, 2020. Bishop Means was the Pastor of Pine Top Church of God in Charleston, WV and faithfully served God and his congregation for 16 years.
Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who instilled in his children the value of hard work, family, and helping others. In his 70’s, he fulfilled a life-long dream of becoming a minister and pastor. He went on to obtain his ordained minister’s license and to attain the highest level of Bishop. Jim loved to teach and was an avid learner his entire life. Earlier in his career, he worked as a mechanic and then as a manager for Hertz Truck Rental and Jay Dunivan Cadillac.
Jim never met a stranger. He was a story-teller who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and reminiscing. He persevered through many challenges in his lifetime and was a blessing and inspiration to so many.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, Jenetta Mace Means; sons James Means (Barbara), of Charleston, WV., Clayton Means (Jacqueline), of Charleston, WV., Kimberly Means (Cynthia), of Hurricane, WV., daughters Patricia Walker, of Port Charlotte, Fl., and Tina Russell (William), of Pittsburgh, PA., Six grandchildren: Angela Means (Mark Hicks), of Charleston, WV., Chanon Richardson, of Ripley, WV., Christopher Means (Rachel), of Charleston, WV., Phillip Means, of Charleston, WV., Melissa Means, of Charleston, WV., Bill Russell (Meghan), of Pittsburgh, WV., 13 great-grand-children Alex, Brandon, Brianna, Colton, Darienne, Dillon, Ella, Emma, Kody, Lyla, Mikel, Tyler, Zachary; sisters, Claudia Sammataro, of Westerly, RI., Edna Mace, of Charleston, WV., Mary Elizabeth Latham, Charleston, WV., a brother, David Means, of Charleston, WV., and sisters-in-law Doris Ramsburg, of Rutland, Ohio, and Rose Madden, of Marysville, Oh.
Reunited with Jim in Heaven are his beloved parents Reynolds and Edith Means, grand-daughter Michele Means; great-granddaughter Caitlin Means; son-in-law Harold Walker; sister Lorine Brogan; sister-in-law, Beulah Stewart; brothers-in-law Alvin Mace, Frank Sammataro, Gerald Hudson, Creighton Brogan, Harold Ramsburg, Don Madden, Tom Stewart.
A viewing will be held on Monday, March 16, 2020, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Rutland Freewill Baptist Church located at 44 Salem Street, Rutland, Ohio 45775. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Miles Cemetery in Rutland. Arrangements are entrusted to the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Pomeroy.
A Memorial service will also be held on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the Pine Top Church of God, 1619 Kenwood Road, Charleston, WV.
