Special Editorial: We can do this!

(Editor’s Note: The following special editorial was submitted by local K92 Radio Host, Steven Figiel. This is a message we all need to hear right now in the midst of the COVID-19 Crisis.)

By Steven Figiel

American truckers are on the road bringing supplies from point to point…

Store clerks are restocking shelves…

School Cafeteria workers are preparing meals for the children…

Health care professionals are working long shifts to care and bring comfort to the sick…

Men and women who know their way with a needle and thread are making masks for those who care for the sick and elderly…

Parents and grandparents are watching children, reading to them, walking with them, playing with them, doing school lessons with them…

In prayerful reflection and contemplation, more and more are turning back to him who told us ‘not to be afraid’.

Manufacturers and distillers are converting their plants to produce ventilators, soaps and sanitizers…

Cruise lines are offering their idle vessels to assist US Hospital Ships…

And each day the sun rises and the sun sets…and with each passing day a quiet resolve becomes less quiet and more confident.

Perhaps, years from now, the whole COVID-19 ‘phenomenon’ will be credited for making America rediscover herself?

Perhaps, years from now, the whole COVID-19 ‘phenomenon’ will be credited for making the United States an ‘IS’ once again?

Yes, fires that burn will leave a mark….there will most certainly be scars left behind. But might this experience we share make us collectively stronger than we were?

We are Washington and Lincoln’s Americans’…We are the sons and daughters of patriots and pioneers who endured hardship and privation, far greater than a pandemic.

COVID-19 is forcing us to act like ‘Americans’…and more and more are answering the call.

Bowed and bent but not broken…Patriot Dreamers with a capacity, still, to see beyond the years!

America! We can do this!
America! We must do this!

And so, as Todd Beamer once said….America! Let’s roll!
