One fatality reported in Gallia State Route 7 crash

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio – The Gallipolis Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle crash involving one fatality.

The crash occurred on Jan. 17 at 10:31 a.m. on State Route 7 near mile port 29 in Gallia County. According to a statement from OSP, a 1998 Toyota Tacoma driven by Richard J. Koeber, 57, of Vinton, Ohio was traveling south on State Route 7. Jordan A. Russell, 31, of West Portsmouth, Ohio was traveling north on State Route 7 in a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 5500. According to the statement, Koeber went left of center and struck Russell in the left side. Russell traveled off the right side of the roadway. The trailer disengaged, struck a tree and a fence. Both were wearing seat belts. The report stated Gallia County EMS transported Koeber to Holzer of Gallipolis, but he died of his injuries. Russell was not transported.

Assisting the OSP were Gallia County EMS, Gallipolis Fire Department, High Road Towing, and Stapleton Towing.

The roadway was close for approximately two hours as a result of the crash.
