Junior Fair Board Helps with Fair, to Hold Scholarship Fundraiser

It is fair season again, and in preparation there have been a lot of improvements going on at the Meigs County Fairgrounds. Everything from mowing, paving, barn repairs, and just sprucing up the place. Some of that work has been done by senior fair board members and some by the hard working youth of the junior fair. Each of these volunteer groups work hard to make the fair be successful and possible. Between doing their projects to display at the fair, cleaning up and doing repairs the Meigs County Junior Fair Board also do fundraisers to help pay expenses. Part of that fundraising is to support the scholarship fund that will be awarded to hardworking junior fairboard members that will be graduating.

One way they raise funds is a service auction. What is a service auction? The service auction which started back in 1991, has youth that are members of the Junior Fair Board and royalty auctioned off to do four hours of labor on the fairgrounds during the week of the fair. This work could be anything from cleaning stalls, washing animals, picking up trash, working in a booth, baby sitting, or other such tasks. All work has to be done on the grounds, and you can even buy the royalty so you could walk around with the King or Queen of the fair.

“This years service auction is really exciting to my JFB. They have been making flyers and there is a competition between them to see who can bring in the most money for our scholarship fund. That person also gets out of a day of their board work shifts just to enjoy the fair! I’m so proud of their hard work this year, they really are leaders in our community! We would appreciate your support Monday afternoon,” said Amanda Faulk, Junior Fair Coordinator.

The Meigs County Junior Fair Board members are Alexis Grubb, Cadence Vance, Caelin Seth, Cassidy Bailey, Cooper Schagel, Corey Seth, Dalton Ervin, Dana Card, Erin McKibben, Hunter Clary, Jacob Spencer, Kristin McKay, Lizzie Parry, McKenzie Long, Melinda Lawson, Olivia Harris, Rachel Jackson, Raeann Schagel, Shelbe Cochron, Trenton Morrisey and Woody Will.

The auction takes place on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. in the Ridenour Livestock Arena. Information can be found on the Meigs County Fair’s Facebook page or the themeigscountyfair.com
