One Fatality in Motorcycle Crash Near Racine
RACINE, Ohio – One person has died following a motorcycle crash on Apple Grove Dorcas Road near Racine, Ohio.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, on November 5, 2022 at 12:14 p.m. troopers responded to the crash. Troopers discovered a 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle being driven by Randall Nichols, 37, of Portland, Ohio had struck a deer that had attempted to cross the roadway. Nichols and his passenger, Jessica Walker, 34, of Middleport, Ohio came off of the bike when it fell over after hitting the deer. The bike and the deer continued off of the left side of the road over an embankment.
Nichols sustained serious injuries and was wearing a helmet. He was transported by the Meigs County EMS to Grant Medical Center in Columbus after a medical helicopter was unable to fly due to wind. Walker was pronounced deceased at the scene by an assistant from the Meigs County Coroner’s Office. Walker was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the crash, according to the OSHP.
The roadway remained closed approximately two hours during the investigation. It has since reopened. Other agencies on-scene included the Racine Fire Department, Meigs County EMS, First Response Towing and Cremeens-King Funeral Home. The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office assisted with off-scene matters related to the crash.
