Middleport Police Chief Mony Wood reports that on February 23, 2023 at approximately 8:03 p.m. Middleport Officers were dispatched to 190 North Second Avenue in Middleport, in reference to a domestic altercation where the suspect had allegedly fired a gun at the victim.

Dispatch stated that a male identified as Ronald A. Johnston had shot his girlfriend in the leg. Middleport officers and the Syracuse Police Department responded to the call initially.

Upon Officers arrival to the scene they located Johnston and took him into custody. The scene was secured at that time and the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, Meigs County EMS, Pomeroy PD, and Agents with the Major Crimes Task Force responded to the scene.

Meigs County EMS transported the female victim to the Holzer-Meigs Emergency Room where she was treated for a gunshot wound and released.

Johnston was transported to the Middleport Jail where he is being housed for multiple offenses related to this incident. This incident remains under investigation by the Middleport Police Department and the Southeast Major Crimes Task Force.
