Bitanga’s hosted youth heart screening Saturday.

Bitanga’s in Middleport, Ohio hosted a heart screening for youth 5 to 15 years old. They teamed up with Who We Play For out of Flordia to have the screening done.

The screening helps with catching heart issues young athletes may not know they have, until it can be too late.

Bitanga’s had three RN’s that volunteered their time to run the EKG’s. Cindy Swisher RN, Amy Saxon RN,and Jen Nace RN. The free EKG is transmitted to a pediatric cardiologist who reads the EKG and emails the results back to the parent. If there is a critical condition found the cardiologist will telephone the parent and give them information to have their child seen in person by a specialist.

“Last year a couple of the children screened had issues with their heart and was able to get ahead of the issue,” said Swisher.

Children from all over the region were eligible to be screened, all you had to do was fill out a online reservation. By noon there had already been 60+ children seen. Bitanga’s had raised enough funds to have 300 children seen. This funding come from monies raised from the annual break-a-thon.
