On March 30th each year, National Doctors Day honors physicians for their dedication and contributions to society and the community. At the Meigs County Health Department (MCHD), we have two of the best physicians in the game!

The Meigs County Health Department is governed by a board of health. A critical member of the board is our medical member, Dr. Wilma Mansfield. Dr. Mansfield completed her medical school training at Ohio State University and then completed her Family Practice residency at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Mansfield practiced medicine in Meigs County for 38 years, before retiring in April 2017. In retirement, Dr. Mansfield has been involved with the Meigs County Health Department Board of Health, Falls Coalition/Walk with Ease, and Meigs County Cancer Initiative, as well as DAR (Daughters of American Revolution). Dr. Mansfield commented about retirement “I mostly enjoy having more time with family (especially my little granddaughter!), reading, doing some sewing projects, tending a small garden & doing yard work.  Also, I try to walk every day, which I always encouraged my patients to do!”

The Meigs County Health Department Medical Director is Dr. Doug Hunter. The Medical Director provides medical direction of all personal health and nursing services provided at the health department. Dr. Hunter completed his medical training at Ohio State University and then completed his residency in Family Practice at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Hunter has practiced for 36 years and currently sees patients as part of the OhioHealth Physicians Group in Racine, Ohio.  Dr. Hunter commented on his personal life “I am happily married to Tonja Hunter and together we have 4 children who are married, and we have four grandchildren!” Dr. Hunter and Tonja are also active members of the Racine Baptist Church.

At the Meigs County Health Department, we recognize how lucky we are to have such amazing physicians as part of our team. Dr. Mansfield and Dr. Hunter are local celebrities! We trust them with our health and well-being. On this National Doctors Day, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for their services to our community.
