Middleport resident named RSC Trainer of the Year
RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Tara Gerlach, of Middleport, and from the University of Rio Grande has been selected as the 2022-23 River States Conference Athletic Trainer of the Year.
It’s the third time Gerlach has earned the award, which is voted on by the fellow athletic trainers and directors in the RSC.
The RSC Athletic Trainer of the Year award annually recognizes outstanding dedication, service and care in the athletic training field for RSC member institutions and the conference as a whole. It was established in 2016-17.
Gerlach is the senior athletic trainer at Rio Grande. She also won the RSC Athletic Trainer of the Year award in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
Gerlach is the sole athletic trainer for Rio Grande’s 22 sports teams. She is known for having a great relationship with the student-athletes, coaches and athletic directors at Rio Grande and also within the RSC. Her efforts have been a vital role in the RedStorm athletic department operating well on a daily basis.
In addition to the regular seasons at Rio Grande, Gerlach was involved in many postseason events on campus and around the conference.
The RedStorm hosted postseason events in many sports such as soccer and men’s and women’s basketball. Rio Grande also hosted the NAIA women’s basketball national tournament and the RSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Gerlach was also the head athletic trainer at the RSC Baseball Championship the last many years.
