POMEROY, Ohio – A couple charged in the death of a Pomeroy woman has been arraigned in court with high bonds set.

Charles S. Burton, 48, has been charged with first degree felony Murder. He was arraigned in Meigs County Court before Judge Michael Barr. Judge Barr set his bond for $2 million.

Also charged is his wife, Michelle Burton, 52, with Complicity to Murder, an unclassified felony degree. Her bond was set by Judge Barr at $1 million.

Both were arrested and charged within less than 24 hours after the death of Tina Johnson. Johnson was found at a residence on State Route 733 early on August 8. She had been stabbed multiple times.

As previously reported in the Meigs Independent Press, since the time of Johnson’s death, Sheriff’s Deputies have executed multiple search warrants in Meigs and Washington Counties. They have collected and processed evidence. Deputies have conducted numerous interviews of witnesses and suspect(s). Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations was also called to help process the scene, according to Sheriff Scott Fitch.
