Forris Edmond McCoy

Forris Edmond McCoy, 87, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away on December 25, 2023, at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley, WV.

He was born on January 30, 1936 in Ravenswood, son of the late Conrad Morgan and Edra Suck McCoy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Paul McCoy and Dr. James McCoy; and in-laws, Doc and Thelma Monroe.

He graduated from Ravenswood High School in 1954. He graduated from WVU in 1958. When he was a student at West Virginia University he went to the National Meat Judging contest in Kansas City, MO. He graduated with a B.S. in Animal Husbandry, Dairy Husbandry and Agronomy. He worked with McCoy Trucking. He was a dairy farmer, owning one of the largest dairy farms in the state at that time, and worked at Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood. His hobbies were gardening, travelling, RVing, and spending time with his family. He served in the US Marine Corps.

He was a supporter of the Ravenswood FFA, Boy Scout Troop. He was an outstanding football player and was selected to play in the North/South game. He loved playing sports.

The passion of his life was farming, and the love of his life with his wife, Charlotte, and his pride and joy were his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte McCoy; daughters, Debra Lyons McCoy (Burt), Louanne McCoy Minear (Kevin), Nancy McCoy, and Peggy McCoy-Knuth (Kurt); son, Ed McCoy; grandchildren, Candi Minear Moore (T. J.), Philip Edmond Lyons; great grandchildren, Austin Moore, Jenna Moore and Chase Moore; siblings, Dorothy Whitman, Joe McCoy, Larry McCoy, Connie Wright, and Rosanna Beane.

The family would like to give a special thanks the Dr. Snyder, Dr. Gaal, and all the staff at Jackson General Hospital.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ravenswood FFA Chapter, 1 Plaza Drive, Ravenswood, WV 26164; American Baptist Association, Hope Center Ministries  6148 Parkersburg Rd

Sandyville ,WV.25275 and Deacon’s Benevolent Fund at First Baptist Church, 215 Ann Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164.

The funeral service were held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ravenswood with Pastor Toby Wagoner and Pastor Karin Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens in Cottageville, WV with the Cpl. Walter L. Mann Detachment 1065 Marine Corp League providing graveside military rites.

Friends were welcomed at the church on Friday, December 29, from 1-3 p.m.
