Johnny L. Newell, 79, of Long Bottom, OH, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at Belpre Landing Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 18, 1944, in Columbus, OH, son of the late Hobart Vincent and Inzy Mae Curtis Newell.

Johnny attended the Chester United Methodist Church and was a member of the Big Bend Farm Antique Club. He was also a member of the Knights Templar and the Shade River Lodge #453 in Chester, where he served twice as Past Master. Johnny was a 1962 graduate of Eastern High School and was a retired member of Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18 in Columbus, with 60 years of service.

He is survived by 3 sons, Jeff and Pam Newell, Scott and Jamie Newell and Mike and Jessica Newell; daughter, Misty and Charlie Bissell; grandchildren, Zack (Lindsey Jeffers) Newell, Dawson Newell, Mackenzie Newell, Wyatt Bissell, Chloe Bissell and Jace Newell; great-grandson, Cameron Newell; brother, Elmer and Darlene Newell; sister, Sheila and Tom Theiss; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Marilyn Gillian and sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Gary Witte.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ella Cameron Newell.
Funeral services were held at 1 P.M., Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville, OH, with Pastor Scott Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the Chester Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, from 5-8 p.m. Masonic services were held at 7:45 p.m.
