A Lakeland woman was arrested early Saturday morning after a hit-and-run crash led deputies to her location, where she was discovered with a juvenile passenger and apparently intoxicated.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said that 28-year-old Z’Lexia Jaquila Willis was arrested following a crash near the intersection of West Campbell Road and Kathleen Road around 1:30 a.m. The victim of the crash gave deputies a description of the suspect’s black Ford and license plate number.
Deputies were able to find the vehicle at Campbell Road North and Banana Road. Willis was identified as the driver, and the car was carrying a juvenile passenger. According to the report, Willis showed indicators of impairment and had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath.
According to deputies, Willis was also driving on a suspended license, and the vehicle’s tag had expired.
Following her arrest, Willis was taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. She underwent a breathalyzer test there. The results showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.252 and 0.250, more than three times Florida’s legal limit of 0.08.
Willis faces many charges while denying driving or being involved in the crash.
She has been charged with DUI 0.15 or higher, driving while license suspended or revoked (DWLSR), leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, contributing to a minor’s delinquency, and culpable negligence.
